Case study :D2 Leisure group

“We spent over 6 months in the selection of our Epos system and chose SACSPos 2000   for its reliability and flexibility. Our staff like the Epos system, and more importantly trust the information within it and complaints have dropped by 90% - a measure  of the improvement in levels of customer services”

    Andrew Curtis
    Managing director, D2 Leisure Group

  • Epos Case StudyRetailers of cycles and battery ride on vehicles based five towns in London introduced SACS Pos-2000 electronic point of sales system to their busy sales counter. All branches were connected to the D2 Group head office in Leytonstone. At the head office SACS Pos-2000 directly interfaces with Sage Line 50 to up date the daily financial information and stock movements from the branches

The challenge - What they had

D2 Leisure Group previously used standard alone DOS based electronic point of sales (EPOS) system in their busy counter. In those days they didn’t have direct link to Sage Stock control system or nominal updates in place. There were stock outs, excess stock holding and wrong price tags for wrong products were   day-to-day occurrence.

Another annoying thing was that the customer’s had to wait long time at the checkout. Inquiries over the phone about product availability and price couldn’t be served quickly and efficiently. There was no product sales history marketing and management information purposes
.

The Solution - What we did

Sage Line 50 and SACS Pos-2000 are linked to satisfy their accounting, point of sales stock control and management information requirements. Sage Line 50 F.C and SACS Pos-2000 and multi-user version Sage Line 50 was installed on the server computer, SACS Pos-2000 was also installed on the server computer and on all workstations at the branch counters. Workstation computers were equipped with programmable keyboard incorporating magnetic card reader, laser barcode scanner, electronic cash draw, till receipt printer and customer display. The company has invested considerable sums in IT and the EPOS systems. They now have NT Server and Win 98 workstations running on local area network

The Benefits - What they got

Ninety percent of D2 Leisure Group merchandise was pre bar-coded by the manufacturers. The rest of the goods were bar-coded using barcode printing facility built in the SACS Pos-2000 software. All items were scanned in on delivery by the warehouse staff. New items created in SACS Pos-2000 will be automatically created in Sage Line 50 instantaneously and vise versa. All booked in stocks were available at the counter for sales. At the counter when each sale was completed in the EPOS, stock level will be updated to the back office Server. Therefore at any point in time a till operator query for the availability of an item will get an exact stock level and price.

Other benefits include serial number tracking for high value items, one off sales customer’s name address capture at the point of sale, multiple price level for the same product, overall percentage or value discount feature, promotional pricing features and other valuable management information reports.

Purchase order processing is handled by Sage Line50, end of day routine at SACS Pos-2000 will post all nominal entries including cash, bank, credit cards, net sales, deposit received, and VAT to Sage line 50. At point of sales, accounts customers will be updated on line real time to Sage Line 50 customer’s record. Following day morning SACS Pos-2000’s import from sage stock function will take care of any P.O.P, goods in or stock adjustment transactions happened in the SAGE Line50.

Multi branch function will take care of goods transfer between branches. If you are transferring an item, which is a new item to the receiving branch, then the item record will be created on the fly. Any point of time you can ascertain the stock availability of your branch or the other branch from point of sales screen.

The Future - In the long run

To help the business to keep its overhead low, managers are now reviewing the option to integrate remote data capture terminals to the Sage Line 50 / SACS POS-2000. Symbol PDT 3100 and Intermeg M90 Data Capture Terminals are available from SACS to interface with their point of sales system (EPOS), Sage Line 50. Which automate stocktaking, goods in, goods transfer, stock spot check, sales order processing and purchase order-processing functions.
